"MODERN DAY" MEDITATION
Basic Format:
•· Mondays (six weeks) starting July 12, 2010 - August 16, 2010.
•· Starts at 7pm...until 8:30pm.
•· Outline as follows:
• 7:00-7:30pm...Intro/Last week discussion & introduction to ‘meditation exercise' for that week.
• 7:30-8:00pm...meditation exercise (may be shorter, depending upon group).
• 8:00-8:30pm...group discussion and basic teaching.
Purpose:
•· How to integrate ‘meditation' into everyday life.
•· Is about experiencing different forms of meditation...a workshop.
•· The level of teaching will be both for people just starting a meditation practice, and for those wishing to expand their existing meditation techniques.
Location:
•· North Glenmore Park...turn South at Glenmore Trail and 37th Street SW intersection and continue south (pass by Grey Eagle Casino) into park.
•· Meet at parking lot "L" (one of the first parking lots after entering).
•· As a courtesy to others, please arrive 15 minutes early.
What to Bring:
•· A cushion and a garbage bag to put the cushion in, to protect it from the outdoor elements
•· Layers of clothing appropriate for the weather, the workshop will be held regardless of weather (a shelter is available if required).
•· A water bottle.
•· Insect repellent, as required.
•· Your self...with an open mind...ready to experience.
Meditation Exercises:
•1. Fire Meditation...
· Introduce the concept of ‘Live Light' (e.g. fire, sunshine, and candle).
· Discover the ‘effects' of gazing into the fire.
· Discuss ways to integrate ‘Live Light' into a person's daily life.
· Time permitting, introduce the candle meditation as an important technique in ‘house-cleaning' of a person's thoughts.
•2. Water Meditation...
· Introduce the concept of ‘Water' (e.g. lakes, waterfalls, rivers, rainfall, and a simple shower/bath).
· Discover the ‘effects' of gazing at Glenmore reservoir...connecting to this beautiful body of water.
· Discuss ways to integrate ‘Water' into a person's daily life.
•3. Connecting with Nature Meditation...
· Introduce the concept of connecting with ‘Nature' (e.g. trees, sky, rocks, wind, and birds).
· Discover the ‘effects' of Nature...connecting to ONE aspect of nature.
· Discuss ways to integrate ‘Nature' into a person's daily life.
•4. Mother Earth Meditation...
· Introduce the concept of ‘Mother Earth' and her healing qualities.
· Introduce Warren Grossman's book: To Be Healed By The Earth.
· Discover the ‘effects' of lying on Mother Earth...introduce the chakra clearing meditation.
· Discuss ways to integrate ‘Mother Earth' into a person's daily life.
•5. Walking Meditation...
· Introduce the concept of ‘slow conscious walking' while looking at the horizon, or at a 45° angle towards the ground.
· Being present to ‘feeling' the energy with one's hands.
· Discover the effects of ‘slowing down' with walking and it's effects.
· Discuss ways to integrate ‘slow conscious activity' into a person's daily life.
•6. Stopping and Breathing Meditation...
· Introduce the concept of ‘stopping' while in the middle of any activity; and observing this effect.
· Discover the effects of stopping for a couple minutes while performing any task.
· Discuss ways to integrate this ‘stopping' technique into a person's daily life.
· Introduce the concept of becoming ‘present' to one's breathing.
· Discover the effects of conscious and deep breathing.
· Discuss ways to integrate this ‘breathing' technique into a person's daily life.
•7. The "Ohm" Meditation...
· Introduce the concept of verbalizing the ‘Ohm' sound as a technique to clear anxiety and restore balance within the body.
· Discover the effects of the sound ‘Ohm' (toning) as a group.
· Discuss ways to integrate this ‘Ohm' technique into a person's life.
